Almaguin Event 2022
After a resoundingly successful
test in 2021, Ghost Gravel is excited to be returning to the Almaguin Highlands on Saturday August 20th to #GetUnsettled.
The 150km 1000m gravel
course will be a ‘figure of eight’ starting and finishing at South River Brewing Co., South River. Riders may choose to cut out at 100km.
The route takes in some of the best gravel roads and trails in North America, including the Old Nipissing Road, aka ‘Ontario’s Ghost Road’ - a former colonization route from 1867 increasingly abandoned to nature. Expect to catch sight of pioneer cemeteries, ‘ghost’ settlements, and wildly beautiful Canadian Shield
landscapes.
Registration capacity will be limited to 60 riders to guarantee the
highest quality cycling experience. Price of entry is $190 + HST plus $10minimum donation to our cause partner CAMH.
The $190 + HST entry includes:
- On-route mechanical support from Parry Sound Bikes and Cannondale
- Fresh espresso along the course courtesy of Stage 21
- 30% off all Ghost Gravel apparel at time of registration
- Highest quality rest stops featuring Endurance Tap, Handfuel and Sapsucker products
- Choice of either Ghost Gravel water bottle or Ghost Gravel neck warmer

..... and more to be announced

Almaguin Event FAQ's
Is it a race?
No. While some may choose to race the course, we hope most will take the time to enjoy the high quality rest stops, amazing views and fascinating history of the area. For these reasons there will be no timing chips and the event will not be OCA sanctioned.
What is the event distance?
The main ‘figure of eight’ loop is roughly 150km with an optional cut out at 100km back at the brewery and parking. We will ask which distance you expect to tackle during the registration process.
What bike should i ride?
As always, the bike you’re most comfortable riding! But ideally a gravel bike with 40mm tires with decent tread. It should be well serviced as limited mechanical support and parts will be available.
What time do I need to be at the start?
We recommend being at the South River Brewing Co., start for 6:30am in time for announcements at 7:00am, with riders departing shortly after in waves, organized by expected average pace.
What is the event price?
There is one price regardless of distance completed of $190+HST. At time of registration we will also ask for a minimum donation to our cause partner CAMH of $100, for which a tax receipt will be supplied via email. This includes a warm catered lunch at the finish, complimentary beverages from South River Brewing, Ghost Gravel complimentary swag, fully stocked rest stops, medical and mechanical support, high quality gift bag and much much more.
Is the event supported?
Yes, the area has sparse amenities and so there are well stocked rest stops scheduled at roughly 30km intervals along the route. Professional medical support will be supplied by Odyssey Medical from Barrie. Basic mechanical support along the route will be kindly supplied again by Parry Sound Bikes.
How long do you think the ride will take?
Based on an average pace of 25kmh, tackling the full 150km distance and using most rest stops, expect to be out for around 7.5 hours.
Is the event for all riding abilities?
With both 150km and 100km options available we hope to create an experience for all riding abilities. However some gravel experience is advised given the terrain in parts being loose gravel.
Is there accommodation in the area?
Yes, there are a few options in South River and around depending on your price point. Inventory is limited so we recommend you don’t delay.
What is your refund / cancellation policy?
For 2022, there will be no refunds for those that can't make it on the day, or for cancellation for any reason. If the event cannot proceed, we will carry over entries to a rescheduled date or credit you for another Ghost Gravel event.
